Project
Nätbildarna started out as a national project in 1999 funded by the Swedish National Council of Adult Education. About 30 study organisations and folk high schools took part in this project, which finished by the end of 2002. The project aimed at setting up a national network and thereby developing a national pedagogical model for meeting-based flexible learning.

Pedagogical tradition
The basic ideas of Swedish folkbildning with its pedagogical tradition of a democratic meeting, conversational learning and participant steering were essential as quality aspects. This contrary to the predominant traditional correspondence courses (self-study courses).

Internet-based distance courses
Nätbildarna is today a consortium, aiming at developing these ideas further through the concept of offering adults a huge variety of internet-based distance courses with a study pace of 50% of full time. Adult students benefit a great deal from this due to the obvious flexibility of time and space. In this way studies, work and everyday life are more easily combined.

Co-operation
Winners are relatively small study organisations and folk high schools where students are able to choose electives from a growing national choice, in addition to ordinary courses or study circles. Our courses also include a coach in the student's vicinity. Not only each member of the consortium offers coaches but also a number of libraries and study centers linked to Nätbildarna. Each organisation also offers access to computers and study facilities.
